Do you use palm oil, if so is this sustainably sourced palm oil?
Palm oil is widely used in the FMCG sector for a variety of reasons and is one of the most productive crops per hectare compared to alternatives. At Bags of Bites, we do not use palm oil directly in our production process but it may be a sub-ingredient within one of our inputs. We regularly review the consumption of all our raw materials to ensure that we are using the most appropriate ingredients to deliver the quality and flavour profile required across our range of products. This ensures that they are ethically sourced with full traceability and supplier compliance at all times.
Why is it that for some products the packaging can be larger than the product?
At Bags of Bites, we take our responsibilities towards the environment very seriously and try to balance all aspects of the presentation, protection and cost of our product packaging as carefully as we can. We never try to package our products in more packaging than is necessary but will always ensure that our product is effectively protected against damage or contamination in transit.
What is your position on using free range eggs?
At Bags of Bites, we are proud to only make use of free-range eggs in our baking process which, although more expensive than conventional battery eggs, are more sustainable, are ethically sourced and better for our planet. We believe in sustainable farming practices that are less reliant on chemicals and fossil fuels and one that provides our hens with a better quality of life.
Are all Bags of Bites products Kosher and Halaal certified?
Yes, all Bags of Bites are Kosher and Halaal certified by the Beth Din and South African National Halaal Authority respectively.

Do you use GMO in your products?
At Bags of Bites, we strive to only use non-GMO in our products. As a responsible food manufacturer, our priority is to assure our customers of the safety and quality of the ingredients we use. Since our inception in 2002, we have tried to substitute all soya and maize ingredients with non-GMO alternatives where we possibly can. Currently, only our Wheat Free Oat & Buckwheat Rusks contains maize meal which is locally sourced and for which we cannot make the claim that the product is non-GMO.
Although the integrity of our policy is backed by a rigorous review process which covers all aspects of supply from the field to our factory, we have decided not to label products as non-GMO even though we could do so as done by many of our competitors.
Do you offer corporate gifting solutions?
Yes, we do offer bespoke solutions to meet your requirements which include white labelling options as well. Contact us for more information on +27 (0)21 447 2538 or email: ryan@bagsofbites.co.za
What is the best way to store your products?
The general rule for all Bags of Bites products is to store them in a cool, dry place and to then store in an airtight container once opened. We also strongly recommend storing our products away from strong flavours or materials such as washing powders or other cleaning products which may taint the product and result in poor taste or quality.
